Democratic World Federalists

Democratic World Federalists (DWF) is headquartered in San Francisco and is the successor to the Northern California branch of world federalist organizations including the United World Federalists from 1947 and the World Federalist Association till 2004. It has also subscribed to the principles of the World Movement for World Federal Government and its Montreux Declaration since 1947. In 1949 it was instrumental in getting the Legislature of the State of California to pass the "California Resolution" calling on the U.S. Congress to take steps enabling the United States to participate in a world federal government. On anniversaries of the signing of the Charter of the U.N. Organization in San Francisco in June 1945, it hosted the WAWF World Congress in 1965 and the WFM World Congress in 1995, where it organized the all-day Forum on "Restructuring the United Nations: Achieving Democratic Global Governance for the 21st Century."

DWF became an independent entity in 2004. It is a "World Federalist without Borders" organization, with supporters throughout the United States and Canada and elsewhere in the world. Members of its boards have come from Australia, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Switzerland, and the U.A.E., as well as the U.S.A. DWF publishes the quarterly Toward Democratic World Federation.

Democratic World Federalists is currently working on programs in:

Promoting World Federation

DWF educates the people on the need to overcome global problems, such as wars and crimes against humanity, and poverty, and to promote the preservation of a healthful environment and a just world community through a democratic, secular, republican, federal system of government for the world.

Restructuring and Democratizing the UN

In 1992 it organized the hearing in San Francisco of the U.S. Commission on Improving the Effectiveness of the United Nations. For the interim, DWF supports the Coalition for the Establishment of a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA), which has its roots in the WAWF Congress in Philadelphia in 1987. It also is supporting the new World Alliance for Transforming the United Nations (WATUN).
