FN Forbundet is the United Nations Association of Denmark and a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). Members cooperate locally, nationally and globally with politicians, organizations and the United Nation Associations of other countries to influence political decision making processes and to inform the Danish public about UN-related issues.
FN Forbundet has members throughout Denmark that participate in their meetings, lectures, and projects to increase the understanding for interdependence of nations and their joint responsibility for international development.
FN Forbundet members are currently working on:
Security Council Reform
FN Forbundet urges that members of the Security Council “be conscious of their responsibilities in relation to the observance of UN conventions – especially the conventions on human rights.” The organization advocates for the election of Security Council presidents from countries that have ratified the UN convention on Human Rights.
Humanitarian Intervention
FN Forbundet advocates for the right of the Security Council to authorize preventative humanitarian action in cases of large scale loss of life. The organizations promotes the definitions of the crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity established under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Millennium Development Goals
One of FN Forbundet's major focus points in the coming years will be implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Members teach about the MDGs at schools throughout Denmark in an effort to increase awareness of and support for development efforts around the world.
UN Education
For years FN Forbundet has been running a school program for grade levels 8-10. About 75 young people from across the country are trained to give lectures on the history and role of the UN.
